So like many I've had lots of problems keeping my sons 170 going. It's a 2012 with low hours. In the last year I re-jetted it (110/40, we live in North TX) and replaced the fuel pump with the Mikuni DF44.
It has always been tough to start, but once it's going it runs good. For the last three months the only way I can get it to start is with the choke open, the throttle to the floor, and pouring gas directly into the carb. Last night I removed the carb and cleaned it throughly, put in a new spark plug, and added a 42 jet. The fuel pump sounds like it is ticking when I try to start it, but I'm can't be sure it's suppling fuel. I've made sure the pick ups in the tank are clean and the petcock is clear.
Any help is greatly appreciated and rewarded with malted beverages if you're in the area:cool:
All I can think of doing is ordering another fuel pump even the unit installed is practically brand new.
